Some very helpful people on this forum have recommended to me to use CCK to solve a problem I have. The problem is the site is hosted with a host whose script installs 6.2 and I don't have access to make my own install. Does anyone have experience using the beta versions of CCK and Views? Any they still a real no-no? Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers
Matt

Ive been using them on a dev
Ive been using them on a dev site all through development with pretty good luck, HOWEVER, cck is only ALPHA and even though views is up to beta2 now, I'm always nervous about using such important modules with anything less than official releases. My gut says don't do it (unless you still have a while for your dev phase and will be able to wait for official releases before taking your site live).
But the best way to evaluate is to load up a test site and see for yourself.

They both work in General
They both work in General Practice. However in my experience they slow down the installation and shoot the number of queries up astronomically. Can't pinpoint exactly which modules cause the problem but those are two to of the main ones that I tried with 6.2.
I've been having success
I've been having success with both of those lately, although I haven't tested cck extensively. The only module I've really run into problems with is the devel module for 6.2

If you can upload files and create a database then you should be able to make your own install.
If you can't do these things then it makes maintenance and admin of the site much harder. e.g. I usually set up a development instance of a live site so that I can try things out safely. But you need to be able to duplicate a database (or create a new one and import a backup) in order to do this.
Just a thought ...

We use them on our
We use them on our production site of http://cocoaheads.byu.edu and we haven't noticed very many issues. The main thing is that in order for new CCK fields to show up in Views, we have to go empty the views cache. Once we do that, it works fine.
I have noticed a couple glitches here and there, but we update them as soon as new versions come out.
