When installing the module in a subdirectory (modules/wiki/wiki.module) instead of standalone (modules/wiki.module), the module doesn't work at all. The filter doesn't show up in input formats and there's no way to use it.

The module does show up in the modules listing and you can enable it, but this has no effect. Also note that the long description of the module doesn't show up in the module listing.
