I was wondering if there was a way to protect an individual node from being edited by anyone other than the author or an administrator (preferably set this as a permission for administrators and/or moderators only). I want to do this on the front page of my wiki, but it does not seem possible for individual nodes.

You can do this with the Checkout module.

I don't think http://drupal.org/project/checkout / http://drupal.org/project/content_lock do what the OP describes.
