I would like to fix the two security problems the latest release just fixed without doing a complete upgrade. The patches say how to do that in the case of a 4.6.1 installation and a 4.5.3 installation. How about a 4.6.0 installation? Does the patch to the 4.6.1 modules also work with the 4.6.0 modules?

4.6.1 patch changes user.module. 4.6.2 is node.module, comment.module and filter.module and the xmlrpc*.inc.

Sure, but the 4.6.2 patch says it should be applied to the 4.6.1 node.module, comment.module, filter.module and xmlrpc*.inc. I take it what you're saying is that it could equally be applied to the node.module, comment.module, filter.module and xmlrpc*.inc in a 4.6.0 installation?

How about trying it? You should also get the patches for 4.6.1 applied.
