Gallery and Drupal together: better install Drupal or Gallery in root directory?

To set up a photo gallery I am considering to install Drupal 6.2, the latest release, and Gallery on the same website independently (apart from the links to each other) from each other (without bridge), to add some needed pages with Drupal to the photo gallery / website (which could be done with Gallery in a limited way if I see right), e.g. a contact, about, terms, prices, imprint page and so on.
Should I install Drupal in the root directory and Gallery in a sub directory e.g. www.mysite.com/gallery or vice versa, Gallery in the root directory and Drupal in a sub directory e.g. www.mysite.com/drupal?
What might be the (dis)advantages?

You can have image gallery
You can have image gallery integrated in Drupal site. There are lots of gallery module. Please have a look at these modules.

I had seen these galleries and integrations; but I would rather have the Menalto Gallery and Drupal installed stand alone, what seems easier to admin, update. I assume it is not to easy to adapt the design of Drupal to Gallery2 or vice verca. So I intend to use two different designs.

Doing so ..this wont limit

As you said you want a start
As you said you want to photo gallery. in future you can add video gallery, screen saver gallery,
wallpapers section..etc.
You can even start blog, forum.
