On systems like vB, users can opt to receive pop-up messages alerting them when they get a private message. Any chance something similar could be implemented so people don't have to load a new page to realize they have a message? It could be something simpler than a pop-up, like using JQuery to display the alert (in the same way it is now, as a warning message).

I second this. I am creating a website that needs people to read their pvt message as quickly as possible and many times people will forget to check the inbox. Pop messages from other useers would be great.

Project: Privatemsg » Private Message Growl

Moving this feature request to appropriate project that already fixes it.

Forgot about this... I recently wrote the Application Toolbar module to solve this problem in a general way.

Nice program but it's completely different than what I need. I frequently overlook the toolbar. This site is for an program that has death as a complication. Notices can't be missed. So no, don't forget it.

@tpainton, If you describe in good detail *exactly* how you want the feature to work, you then can offer a bounty for some one to build it. otherwise this solution is what you will have to use for your site.

When you receive a private message, a popup alerts you of this.. I have been messing with pmgrowl now for 30 minutes.. It doesn't seem to be working for me.
