There is only one module I am aware of that may help here the domain.module
however, you can set up subdomains manually and share tables using settings.php too (My preferred method)

organic groups offers the foundation of social networking. Look into it. Another couple to look at are buddylist2 or user-relationships. Creating a site with the functionality the big boys have is possible with drupal but it takes a lot of different modules and considerable custom coding to get them to all work together the way that you envision.

Thats a very open ended question. many of the modules in the downloads area can be incorportated into a social networking site.
Is there something a tad more specific you can ask ?
