I have my site setup with .htaccess redirecting http:// to http://www. but I find that things such as feed icons will always link to http:// without WWW. I've also noticed this happens with another module I've installed (shareomatic). Is there an internal setting I can change so my Drupal installation links to www. by default?

Try to set $base_url in your settings.php file (/sites/default/settings.php).
