It would be nice to add some JS that creates a token link for a parent item. Otherwise, you have to create a page with links in the event that someone is too hasty and doesn't see the dropdown.

I know. Nitwit-proofing is a tedious task.

I guess that might be a convenience for those who don't create pages for these links as a matter of course, but I find that I usually do create such content. Either way, I'm not sure I can add something here that will make sense for most people in most situations. And I don't want to weigh the theme down with a lot of features that only address needs of a small subset of users... I think such things are best treated as site-specific customization tasks.

Nonetheless, I'm open to ideas, patches, etc. if you have a specific implementation that you feel applies to a general audience.

Nah. On second thought, it's not worth the time or weight. I might just alter the table structure to allow a null value.
