I would suggest that instead of Content Access UI being available after a new node has been created, that we can select the Content Access on the same page when we are creating the node. Probably as a field tab?

Yeah, this is also exactly what i am looking for... but for 6.x-1.0.
Are there any plans/actions to implement this very nice and useful feature?

Settings the default means new nodes are set to these settings, no need to put all the stuff into node create form. Closing it as 5.x is not supported anymore.
