I am in the process of launching a couple of Drupal sites, and would like to speed things up by getting someone to help me work through understanding Drupal. Obviously enough, I am happy to pay market rates, and would expect to pay through Paypal, although I could do it other ways if that works better. I am figuring a couple of Skype conference calls to get questions answered, best practices explained, and so on. If anyone is available, or if anyone is recommended, please contact me through the site contact info or via Skype. Thanks.

List of Drupal Training Providers In the Handbook
There is now a page in the handbook which provides a list of Drupal Training Providers.
It's grown to include quite a few folks since this question was first posed.

the best way to learn
the best way to learn drupal,
install it on a local host
start messing with it
try all admin tasks
i think training is crap
once u master it, u can look into making themes and building own modules
the u can experience the feel-good-factor that u can do anything with drupal
the best way to learn is an individual topic
I tend to learn well the way that you describe, but not everybody does. The same is true with screencasts and written documentation - some prefer one over the other. Different people have different learning styles. I think most people try your mode of learning before feeling stuck and then deciding to find something else.
Fortunately we've got:
Many tools for many learning styles - and everyone benefits.
