Thanks for looking.

I've got ver 6.2 installed on my ISP server....works fine.

Realized the modules I really need are mostly 5.x versions.....so I'm trying to install ver 5.7 on the same server, using the same domain name, but ver 5. is in a sub-folder of the directory thusly:

www.mysite/drupal (ver. 6.2 is in here)
www.mysite/drupal5 (ver. 5.7 is in here)

I set up a separate database for Drupl 5.7.... and the install script starts fine, but I can only get as far as the database configuration page and it says:

Failure to connect to your MySQL database server. MySQL reports the following message: Access denied for user 'joeblow'@'localhost' (using password: YES).

Once the 5.7 site is set up, I plan to delete the 6.2 version. Am I going about this all wrong?

Thanks for your help!!!!

you can delete everything and just install D5 and start over.... but I suggest you check whether you gave permissions to the db user to access the D5 db....
