Here is the current option with description:

"Existing terms
Ignore
Update if name matches

Whether existing terms with the same name should be re-created or updated"

So if I choose to "Ignore" the existing term will be recreated, and if I choose "Update if name matches" the existing term will be updated.

Basically, this means, that if I choose to ignore, if a term exists, it will be deleted along with the existing parent child relationship?

And if I choose to update, if a term exists, and it is a hierarchical taxonomy, it will be inserted as children?

The import process will never delete taxonomy terms.

If you choose to 'Ignore', it will not update existing terms. If you choose to 'Update if name matches', it will find a term with the same name (which is mainly handy for updating term's descriptions, etc.)

When importing hierarchical data, it will re-use existing parents (edit: if they're in the same hierarchy level) regardless of how the 'Existing terms' option is configured. So in the case of hierarchical imports the 'Existing terms' option only applies to the leaf terms (the deepest terms, end-points).

I believe my confusion came from the way hierarchical taxonomies are handled at import. I assumed the "Update existing term" applied to updating the taxonomy tree as well :P

I posted my vision in the other issue, and thank you very much for your help.
