this module works great for email addresses entered into the body text area, but it doesn't seem to do anything to email addresses entered into cck email fields.
is there another setting in the admin i have to enable?

Go to "Content management", "Your content type", "Display Fields" tab (http://yoursite/admin/content/node-type/yourcontent/display)

Select "Email SpamSpan display" instead of "Default Email Link" for email fields.
