I've been working with drupal since version 5.0 in french without problem, and I'm trying to start a new site with drupal 6.2 ... But everytime I tried to activate de french language, drupal is always giving error when importing the french language files...

Like: An HTTP error 406 occurred. /index.php?id=&op=do

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.... I've installed drupal, then activate de multilanguage features... and uploaded the french files... Drupal detect them, but can't import because of the errors when importing them...

Any clue please?

Thanks a lot,
Danny

PS: I'm sorry for my bad english.. I'm a french guy in Quebec, Canada.... ;-)

Salut!

I have a similar problem,
On my personal home server (drupal6)
I simply upload all the files from the french translation in the main directory and everything goes fine. (I used winSCP on ssh but I'm pretty sure it works with filezilla(ftp))

But! When I try to do the same thing on my job's hosted drupal 6 site(hosted on hostpapa.ca) , I get the same error:
An error occurred. /drupal/?id=&op=do <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1....

I tried via ftp and via de hostpapa's file manager(uploaded the compressed file and uncompressed it in the home directory)

I checked the permissions and they are the same as in my successfull translation installation on my home server...

I tried importing all the po files one by one and it works, but maintaining that will be a hassle...

So the problem must be a setting in the cpanel that's conflicting with the .po import procedure. (assuming you are also on a hosted drupal) Are you?

I'm new at using a cpanel so maybe there's something I got to do ...

For now I'm using the drupal 5 .po file ... is that allright to do that ?
If anybody has ideas...

Thanks

Hi,

I'm getting the same error. Immediately upon adding any language packages, specifically dutch and german. Result:

An error occurred. /?id=&op=do <!DOCTYPE html ... [page source code follows in a long red box].

The added language does not work, while the all pages (in English) load normally.

This exact same error is also mentioned in
http://drupal.org/node/279796
http://drupal.org/node/249340
and somewhat similarly in other places, all apparenly without a solution.

Where you able to solve it? I'd be happy for any pointers to make the localisation /internationalisation work.

Thanks

jeyro

Just to update the above, making changes in (or adding a) php.ini file as in http://drupal.org/node/40965 also would not work.

So I added the language without the automatic import and used the translations import function to import each language file manually. This is a bit tedious since there is quite a number of files... but it works!

As I will add further languages lateron, it would still be nice to know how add the language with the automatic function.

Cheers!

PS: this drupal version was also Fantastico autoinstalled and at the time of the language import used php 4.

I have the same problem. I wonder if it is a permission thing. I managed to do the install on a hosted server in a new drupal install. I was able to add all the laguages. When I try to do it on an existing drupal 6.2 install I allways get that same error. I used the drupal 6.2 dev version and it worked fine when I istalled it together with drupal, but not on the existing install.

I can see the .po docs in the folders on my server but can't get them installed in drupal.

I would be happy if someone could give a good explanation on how to install new languages on an existing site, because all the tutorials are aimed at new drupal installs!

Is it the same error as me ?
What makes you say it's a permission thing ?
so your problem seems to be the oposite of mine,
Mine worked on a manual installation but not on a hosted(hostpapa with fantastico).

Have you tried upgrading your drupal installation to 6.3?

I did and it still did not work.
