What I mean is removing things like tags from teasers, and only allowing them in full nodes, etc.

Thanks very much for an excellent and very extremely useful module.

no, Contemplate cannot remove something that is added in the node.tpl.php theme file Contemplate can only takes the content and changes it, them passes the changes off to the theme layer. What you are looking at removing is added by the theme layer.
