After enabling the ApacheSolr Sorting block, it is possible to view search results in ascending or descending order by title, type and date. However, clicking on the 'Author' option results in a 'Your search yielded no results' page.

I haven't had time to look into the causes for this, yet - some kind of issue with key names in the query?

original poster should make sure that they've copied
the schema.xml to their Solr instance solr/conf directory.

Until I did this I could not sort by title or author. Now both
work fine.
