Sourced from this thread on the documentation listserve, it would be helpful for new documentation contributors to find answers to frequently asked questions in a master "Contributing to documentation FAQ" list. This could also ease the burden on experienced contributors and prevent the need to re-explain processes.

Most of the answers to these sorts of questions are available with some digging, but not easily findable and also often not easily understood by new documentation contributors. See the mailing list thread (and specifically this post) for more background.

This ticket serves as a superticket for creating this section in the Contributing to documentation section. Please feel free to suggest new FAQ questions and answers in the comments on this issue, and I'll ensure they get some attention for the FAQ. Thanks.

An initial, extremely unfinished (by which I mean not even spell-checked) draft of the Contributing to documentation FAQ page is now live.

Please help by suggesting new questions either here or in the comments on that page or, if you can, editing that page directly. Thanks.

This document is coming along nicely and now has some a handful of good questions and answers. As such, I think it can be considered "created" and so this ticket can be closed. Future additions to the Contributing to Documentation FAQ page can be addressed directly on that page by documentation contributors or in comments (like other standard Handbook pages) by other users.
