Hi everyone,

just wanted to do a quick post to showcase the simple site i've just done for my sisters new theatre company.

Design & theme

First up i ain't no designer so any thoughts on the design would be nice. but the design had to look fun and colourful as well as staying clean and clear. it is a completely custom theme built from scratch.

Functionality & modules

I didn't make any custom modules so it's all contrib and core modules.
CCK, views and imagecache are the drivers of the site used to set up the teachers, classes, gallery and news pages.
other key modules used:

  • pathauto
  • thickbox for the gallery
  • simplenew to keep people updated
  • BUEditor & IMCE for content markup
  • webform for the contact form

Why i used Drupal

The site needs regular updating so that was a main focus, but more than that "why wouldn't i use drupal?"! Drupal made the development of this site so much quicker allowing me to develop the site in 3 weeks.
drupal also means that after a short bit of training my sister will be able to update the site whenever she likes :)

A very good example of how Drupal can be used for a very simple site. And I'm sure your sister will find updating it VERY simple with just the fewest of instructions. My dad needs a simple site for a small consulting company and its basically a brochures site but a little training on the backend and they can add pages to hearts content.

It looks very clean and clear. I can't believe you made that theme from scratch! You should definitely post it with the other themes, its as good if not better than some already out there. I'd be curious to see the blocks and such.

I'd recommend a nice decent sized picture, sticky on the frontpage.

Hi,

thanks for your comments! i know it's a pretty simple site using standard contrib and core modules but i wanted to highlight that drupal can be used for simple information based sites to dramatically decrease development time and allow rapid deloyment. i know some people may think drupal would be overkill for such a simple site but its not the case.

we're working on more picture (need parent permisson for each one) but homepage photo is a nice idea thanks!
also i'm happy to show you code snippets for blocks and such, and i'm planning to get a cvs account and release a load of custom modules/themes as soon as i get some free time.
