Windows OR Linux

Hi,
we're about to trial Drupal and have an XP laptop free. Would it be better (i.e. easier in the long-term) to rebuild this as a Linux machine or build Drupal on the XP platform.
Cheers.

Doesn't matter
The choice of Windows or Linux with regard to Drupal development is immaterial.

I've used XP
With a program called "EasyPHP" to give me a LAMP-like development environment and it has worked faultlessly for many PHP apps, Drupal, Joomla, SMF, PHPBB, Coppermine, Gallery2, XOOPS, Moodle....
However, you can get Linux in bootable CD form (Knoppix?), so keep the XP machine and boot from a CD for final testing if you think you need it.
Alternatively, go for a dual boot approach, giving you your windows apps with the power of Linux when it is needed.
So in short, there is no reason at all to get rid of XP from your machine. Which development environment your prefer to work in thus becomes personal choice.
Hope this helps,
Gareth
Stick to MySQL
Hi Mombee,
If you stick with XP make sure to use MySQL and not PostgreSQL.
From my experience people will sometime use Postgres when doing a WIndows trial, then figure out later than most hosting companies will support MySQL only. If you go with MySQL now then later when you decide to host your site professionally you will have less problems exporting your development database to be imported at a hosting provider.
