Description
I would love to use this module however I am afraid of it's dependency. I only need it's automatic tagging feature. I don't need any user interface.
I suggest splitting the module into two modules. One is responsible from core functionality. Another module is responsible from the user interface.

It says that eventually cron will become unnecessary. I do not want to use cron part of the module either. I suggest moving cron handling into another module.

I need to test whether this module will actually work using just jQuery update, and not jQUIB. That may answer some of the issues you have with regards "it's [sp] dependency". I'll not be moving the hook cron to another module, quite frankly I don't see the point in this, and I'll not be splitting the module into two.
A possible solution to this could be adding an option on the autotag settings page, which simply states that the option to refine "autotags" shouldn't be given to the user. This option would be automatically selected if the dependency (be it jQuery update or jQUIB depending on my investigation) were not met.
I'll leave this issue open until I've investigated using jQuery update.

It would be great if the cron part was disabled after install.

It's possible that I could use jQuery update, and jQuery UI, but personally I feel using jQUIB is preferable to this (as jQuery update can screw up some other modules whilst JQUIB shouldn't have any effect).

I've tried to add a solution to this to version 1.4. Users can now choose between having JQUIB, or JQuery Update and JQuery UI. I haven't had chance to test the module with JQuery UI and JQuery Update so could those using this combination please post your results here.

I have JQUIB and JQuery Update and JQuery UI. i'v tried the last version with jquib enabled and not and i have always this error
user warning: Errore di sintassi nella query SQL vicino a ')' linea 10 query: SELECT t.tid, t.vid FROM term_data t LEFT JOIN term_synonym s ON s.tid = t.tid WHERE( LOWER(t.name) IN ('','span','class','inline','inline','left','a','href','http','servizi','radicalparty','org','freedom6','files','images','congresso','coscioni','4','preview','jpg','onclick','launch','popup','170','640','427','return','false','target','blank','img','src','http','servizi','radicalparty','org','freedom6','files','images','congresso','coscioni','4','interno','jpg' in /www/html/servizi/freedom6/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 172.

Thank you Simon for this very useful module.
I'd also like to see the UI optionally not presented to the user. Perhaps it would be good to have the UI permission-based so admin could still use the functionality, but not end users.
Cheers
