Hey,

Thanks for the great work. I am also looking forward to a port of this great module to Drupal 6.x. You can count on me to test it extensively!

I have also used the Open Conference Systems (OCS) extensively - so I have quite a bit of experience with conferences.

Can't wait to test the first development snapshot for Drupal 6.x!

Best Regards!

Hi all,
thanks for your interest in this module.
I'm very sorry to say that, but unfortunately it is out of question for me to develop such a port:
a) I don't have the time
b) I don't have the slightest ideas about what changed in v.6
c) I even can't (at least not easily) install Drupal 6 because of incompatibilities and lack of a "virgin" server (to avoid cluttering of existing databases and/or drupal web sites)
d) even if I could, I probably wouldn't either, because so many modules are not yet avail for v.6

You may have guessed: I find it very counter-productive from the drupal team to publish again and again non-backward compatible new versions of drupal (or at least: without providing scripts to do automatic migration). I fear drupal is committing suicide with this politics ; users get fed up with this problem.

Maybe someone who is experienced in porting modules from v5 to v6 would not have much trouble to do this ; I suppose this may be quite straightforward for the conf. module which does not rely on subtle technical details (I think).

Again: very sorry, folks, but you need to find someone else for this task. (This might be possible - it was the same situation when I took this over from Tobias' version for Drupal 4, not very long ago... and I was a complete Drupal newbie !)
My sincere regrets and apologies...

Hello MFH,

Thats very understandable. I would like to thank you for contributing so much.

On another note, my expertise lies in the "R" and "Matlab" area - however I have been cramming some PHP, JS + Ajax, and touching up on HTML standards. Maybe in a few months I'll know enough to try to port this myself.

Otherwise than that all we can do is hope that some other developer will try to port this module. It looks like a VERY promising module.

Best Regards!

Hello All

We have been working on a 6.x port of conference module. And we are currently doing some tests on the ported version, which includes some changes from the previous versions and we have added in some new features also.

If anyone is interested in the progress of this port and status please do let us know.

We have released a User Manual based on the new port of 6.x and his attached as a part of this post.

Once we put it up in a public domain for testing we will let you know about it.

Hi MFH

I hope you wouldn't mind the fact that we are working on the port for this module. It would be nice if you can give us the commit rights for this project so that we can make the dev release of this port official.

Thank You

Regards
Zyxware

P.S: Please download both files and unzip to the same directory before you view the manual.

Hello Zyxware,

of course I'm glad you take over this module to 6.x, and I'm sure that the original author of the 4.x version also agrees.

I don't think I have the privileges to give you the CVS access, I'll try to contact an admin for this.
(Or if you have any relations with CVS people at drupal, feel free to contact them, I'll be glad to confirm that I agree on giving you all necessary rights to take over.)

Regards
Maximilian

UPDATE : AFAICS it is still up to Tobias Hoelterhof to give you these rights. I have sent him an email. Tell me if I can do anything else.

Hello Zyxware,

I'm also glad to see your efforts in updating the conference module to drupal 6. I granted access to you to the cvs directory of the project.

Greetings,
Tobias.

Hello Tobais and MFH

We have committed the latest changes of the port of Conference Module to Drupal 6 in the CVS repository.

The latest user manual is also uploaded and we have given a link to it in the modules page and well as the release notes.

Since the porting is done and is in BETA, is it ok to close this thread?

Any new issues on 6.x BETA can be handled as a separate thread.

Regards
Zyxware
