the cck phone field (http://drupal.org/project/phone) currently has two releases for 5.x.
On the project page you can see that one is recommended over the other. Granted, I'm not sure why there are concurrent official releases (i posted a support request to find out), but since it can happen, and it seems drupal marks one as recommended over the other, could this be handled by update status?
Currently it just says "also available", but it could it say something like "recommended version" in this case?

webernet commentedIf more than one branch for a core version is supported by the maintainer, if you are using the lower (5.x-1.x) branch, then Update status will simply indicate that the higher (5.x-2.x) branch is 'Also Available'.
If you are using the higher branch (5.x-2.x) then the lower (5.x-1.x) branch is ignored.
Changing it to say 'recommended version' has been discussed, and further discussion and details can be found in #208766: Latest release from maintainer's recommended branch called "Also available", not "Recommended"
