Hi,

I am new to Drupal and need help. When I enable a module that comes with default install (poll, etc) the module then appears in blocks like it should. However, when I download and enable a contrib module, it does not show in blocks to assign a region in any sidebar. Could anyone suggest as to why this could be happening. I am using Drupal 6.

Not all module have blocks, and not all module with blocks enable the block by default. Asking about particular modules would probably get you a better answer.
