PFBuzz.com -- short for Personal Finance Buzz -- is a social network portal dedicated to personal finance niche. Basically, it's a portal put together by a personal finance blogger for personal finance bloggers and readers. The primary features of the site include:
* Social network portal, similar to Digg
* Random site showcase, similar to Stumble Upon
* News aggregator (aka Planet)
* Blog (single user, mainly for site news)
* Forums to discuss personal finance topics
History
At first I didn't realize a blogger with limited programming skill could start a Digg-like site. Then I came across a software called Pligg. PFBuzz.com was started as a Pligg site in its beta stage, but about 4 days before launched, I discovered Drigg. Drigg is a powerful Drupal module that turns Drupal 5.x into a Digg like site. With all the features and support of Drupal, I was sold. The site was quickly switched over to Drigg and launched on time (that's how easy it was to modify Drigg/Drupal site to meet my needs).
Modules
PFBuzz.com started with the base package of Drigg by Tony Mobily. Later on I enabled aggregator (modified to output excerpt) and added a few modules -- i.e., Token and Pathauto -- to beautify the URL.
The "Random Buzz" is a custom PHP page which I would like to turn into a Drupal Module. Unfortunately, my knowledge of Drupal is too limited.
Goals
My vision for the site is for it to be the premiere portal for personal finance niche. A place where bloggers and readers visit daily.
Overall, there are still a lot of design and functionality items that I am still working on -- so far my list is about a page long. In any case, I would love to hear your feedback on how I can improve the site.
Thank you,
Pinyo @ PFBuzz.com
