Hello,

I am developing a community-type website, using Drupal. This is my first project with Drupal. My tendency was to use Drupal 6.2, since it is the latest version, but later I found out that there is still a long way until all the important modules will be upgraded to 6.2.

Do you think it is a good practice to develop it all for Drupal 5, and when all the modules I need will be upgraded to 6.2, upgrade the whole site? Or, should I just wait until all the important modules will be upgraded? I believe I can make my site work in two months, and it will probably take longer for the important modules to be upgraded to Drupal 6.2.

Eli,

I posted this same question last week and came to the recommended conclusion, which is go with 5.x. I am very glad I did because the modules I needed were extremely useful to getting up and running, and it would have been a real pain to not have them, even with the better functionality of 6.x. Hopefully, it won't be too hard to upgrade once those modules make it along.

I was thinking to wait 2-3 months until the modules will be upgraded to Drupal 6.2 and meanwhile learn how to develop/hack other modules. Do you think that in 2-3 months most 'core' modules will be upgraded? I am talking about CCK, Views, Organic Groups (I know some of them already work on Drupal 6.2).

that are only available for Drupal 5, go with 5.

The upgrade is really a cinch... once all the modules you used are ready.

The lighter you can tread with modules, the better, especially for future upgrades.

Have fun!
