Description

Hi,

I run fsdaily.com and I have had several users point out that persistent logins isn't working. I have tested it on my site with several browsers (firefox, epiphany, camino, safari) and with these browsers I find that they are right. I login (checking the "remember me" box), I quit the browser, I relaunch the browser and I'm not logged back in nor welcomed back. OTOH, when I do the same thing on another Drupal site (ubuntuhq.com) it works fine. I have confirmed with the admin of ubuntuhq that they are using the 5.x-1.3 version of the persistent login module on Drupal 5.1. I have tried that version of the module and have even tried upgrading to 5.x-1.4-beta2 too, but to no avail. I have also found that for some people persistent logins do actually work on fsdaily! And I just tried opera and it worked too.

I don't see any rhyme or reason here. It doesn't work for some users and it does for others. It doesn't work for me but it does on UbuntuHQ. It doesn't seem to be the module. It doesn't seem to be a specific browser or browser setting.

Can you suggest anything?

Same for me: Persistent login works randomly for my users, with no consistent pattern.

It seems this module is not actively maintained.

Is there another module that keeps users logged in? I couldn't find any, which is surprising for such a basic feature.

Thanks,

Same problem here, it works well on some websites and not on some others!

Cache enabled on all websites, but I don't think it is the reason.

Thanks.

Maybe a solution with Remember_me patched module ?

I haven't tried it yet:

Sorry for the delay in responding.

My suspicion is that this is the result of an interaction with another module. PL uses hook_init() (under D6 it is called hook_boot()) and if other modules use it, it is possible to interfere with PL's use.

So, on the site on which it is not working, go to Admin > Site Config > Performance. What are all the modules that are listed as being incompatible with "Aggressive page caching"? (At least PL should be listed.)

I've also found that persistent login simply doesn't work at all. Using Safari on a Mac. Ticking "remember me" has no effect whatsoever.

I have tried disabling the other modules that are incompatible with aggressive caching (statistics and devel in my case), and that didn't change anything.

No activity here for several months. Closing.

Feel free to reopen if you can provide instructions to reproduce the issue. Otherwise, it's not possible to guess what happens as it may depend on other contrib modules installed on the site, as being suggested by Barry previously.

This issue is not fixed.

It is in fact much worse since the recent security upgrade of Drupal to 5.19, simply changing window focus can cause you to get logged out. Perhaps that is a clue to what is happening. I've been logged out three times in the last hour while simply replying to PM and comments on the site.

I have a very large and busy site, having to log back in to do normal administrative tasks is a huge pain. I'm willing to work with someone on this. Thanks.

Ok, let's re-open this. I should say, though, I don't have time for anything D5 at this point in time, but I would be happy to review patches.

No activity here for several months, again (see #7). Setting issue back to closed state.
