On 17-21 October O’Reilly will hold an OpenSource Conference in Europe (OSCON EU) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. There is a plan to have a mini Drupal-con there like there was on the FOSDEM in Belgium and the upcoming OSCON in Portland.
I (bertboerland) am trying to facilitate this event if enough Drupal coders, admins and users will show up or have an interest. The Drupal-eu-oscon event will be both for OSCON attendees and there will be most likely also some evening events for people interested in drupal but not having the opportunity to visit OSCON itself. This page will be the placeholder for all information about this drupal meetup in Amsterdam.
Goal:
The goal for the mini-conference is 4-fold:
- To meet up with fellow Drupal coders and users,
- promote Drupal by showing off the power of the code and the community,
- connect with other OSS projects and
- just have a good time!
If only this last goal is met, I think we will have a successful conference.
How:
to be written
Stuff we need to get our hands on / to do:
- Beamer
- Room
- Hotel (Maybe rent a house and a car?)
- "Hi, my name is…" stickers
- A Camera (hint from ber: check with "de balie")
- WiFi AP + internet connection
- Drupal t-shirts
- Drupal flyers
- Make a logo for the spotlight feature on drupal.org
- DONE: Add a checkbox "I’ll attend" to the profile
- Sign up for a BOF
- DONE: Setup a mailing list (use the drupal con?)
- Create a banner
Thing we should sort out:
- Think about sponsoring?
About Amsterdam
Amsterdam is the capitol of The Netherlands. The Netherlands is a small friendly central country, north of Belgium (home of Dries) and west of Germany. The weather conditions in Amsterdam in October can be anything from a late Indian Summer (sunny, 20 degrees Celsius) to an early autumn (windy and rainy). Amsterdam is a big city with less than 1 million inhabitants, know for its many cultures, tolerance, diversity and a nice historical inner-city with canals. Amsterdam –as is the rest of the Netherlands- is also known for its tolerant attitude towards other cultures though this is changing fast due to international terrorism.
The Netherlands is in GMT +1 and has the euro as currency. While the main language is Dutch, most people can speak English. The public transport system (train, busses and trams) is very good as well. However, staying in The Netherlands is not very cheap, a beer will typically cost you about 3 to 4 dollars.
Schiphol Airport is 20 km from Amsterdam with a good train connection to the center of Amsterdam. The hotel where the conference is, is one of the most exclusive (read: expensive) in Amsterdam. We need to get organized in another hotel or even house.
People who will attend:
There is a list of people who will attend. Be sure to edit your profile to get listed.
Comments
I will attend...
And here are some ideaas:
* Get the local hackers/OSS orgnaisation in it too: @scii (https://scii.nl/) They could help us with space & hardware.
* Get the people who did the AV for druplCOM 2005 involved. They operate from deBali

I will definitely come
As an EuroOSCON speaker about Drupal API, I definitely will come.
I do not feel the need for another mailing list, there is a drupal-con already.
