A lot of digg-like sites start with a small number of submissions and while grow have to raise the promotion criteria not to flood the frontpage with everything. Some sites also like lowering the promotion criteria for weekends so that frontpage could look as lively as on the weekday.

Why not to automate this routine task? It would be great if I could set something like "I want 5-7 nodes of no less than 2 votes (to cut off the most lame scoops) to be promoted during every weekday, 2-4 nodes during weekend". Then drigg would dynamically adjust the promotion criteria accordingly so that the front page would be neither flooded with promotions, nor silent.

This request is related to Promotion based on multiple factors, but I'd like to mention this particular factor to be mentioned explicitly, since it is apparently more difficult to implement.

I think it's a good idea. Again, I really need to get some important bugs sorted out first and some patches applied. But, this is definitely in the "queue" for promotion methods (and we all know Drigg needs more promotion criteria).

Seems related to #214354 for me. At least we should improve the promotion method but to add criteria based on weekday seems to much for now.

As always, you are totally right Cedric. Now that you're writing new promotion methods, we can see that adding something like that would create a level of complication that is hardly justifiable.

MAYBE what we could do, and I say MAYBE, is a "day multiplier"... that is, for each day of the week users can set a multiplier which will be used to multiply any vote received by. This means that having 1.3 for Sunday, for example, would make it 30% easier to get things promoted on Sundays. However, promotion methods would have to individually take care of this.

Cerdic, *consider* the multiplier idea and maybe add i t to the patch, if you think it's feasible. However, this really seems to be something that would be useful to 1 or 2 users in total. So, it's OK as a bounty, but as a feature... probably not.

I would say that adjustments for particular weekdays was just an example.

The real "beef", "point" or end user value is in getting rid of the need to care about adjusting criteria. You can reformulate the issue into a single sentence request "I want to have 5-7 promotions per day no matter what, drigg should figure out criteria himself".

That is different from just multiple factors promotion in that it includes feedback look as one of the factors.

On the other hand radioactivity might bite most of the bullet.. With it manual adjustment might still be needed, but maybe not too much and not too often.

I don't think #5 is a sane request (this doesn't mean you're insane :-D )

The problem is that there might be days with more exciting news and that can happen on a Sunday. IThe number of promotions will statistically depend on the number of submissions.

I think you are trying to overregulate your site.

I am creating a site for sellers. I have following requirements.
1. the account of a seller who has paid subscription for a period should get promoted for that period.
2. The total amount of money made by the seller should be visible on his profile and the profile those sellers (free or paid) who have made most money should get promoted on every page site and this should change dynamically according to the amount of money they make. i.e. If a seller makes more total money in his store than another seller whose profile(store) is currently promoted then that seller replaces him.
