After i install the filefield module and its required modules i get this error

write a patch? filefield_meta is officiallly experimental still..

Nope, that's a PHP 4 error, while the project page clearly states that current filefield releases won't work on PHP 4. Please read at least the first few things that we actually did write (not that there's a lot of documentation out there, but this piece *is* documented), and only then post an issue to the queue.
