I choose the option: "Threaded list - collapsed" for my site's comments... this produces an elegant outline of comments, showing only subject lines, which I like. However, when viewing the full comment, all the comments disappear except the one that was just clicked.
Is there a way to retain the outline? In other words, still see all of the subject lines of the other comments while only viewing the full comment description on the link that was clicked? It seems like ajax would be appropriate for this.
I'm concerned my site visitors will get frustrated when the comments temporarily disappear like described above. Also, I would simply choose: "Threaded list expanded" but this has way too much vertical space for each comment leaving only 3 or 4 comments visible on the screen at one time and that is not desired because it causes a lot of scrolling.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Is there a module or theme that would help. Is there a hack? Again, any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

I have to say between
I have to say between scrolling and having to click on a subject line to read a comment, I'd choose scrolling any day. My web motto: Don't make me click more than I have to. Ever been to one of those sites where an article that could easily fit on one page (with scrolling) is instead broken up into 4 to 5 pages? IMHO annoying. Of course, it depends on what your users want to typically do. If they really really just want to read a select few comments then maybe what you want to do is good, but most times people can't judge whether they want to read a comment until they actually read the comment. My two cents.
