Hi, running a 5.x drupal. looking to run a proper blog which will allow true RSS feeds. Our current default RSS only pulls a partial of the home page. So can anyone suggest a good working RSS module? I'd do a search, but it appears that Drupal is again unsearchable.

Seems like you're not asking for a different blog module as much as a better way to specify your rss feeds. the views module allows you to create views that are rss feeds (view type = rss feed). Or you can look at the http://drupal.org/project/feedapi series of modules.
