CCK Node Reference with Subform element

I would like to use Subform element to create sets of 1-N parent node child nodes.
E.g. create a node representing author, with child nodes for the author's N books written in the same form.
Is it possible to use the module with AJAX to pass the id of the parent node to its child nodes in an invisible field?

Are there any other modules solving this problem, or modules that even let the users edit a previously created node along with all its child nodes?
