Hi,
I've put together a patch that enable pathauto support so you can now define a default path for all faq category pages. It's still in the early stages and probably needs a bit of work before being committed, but it does currently create the paths.
Hope you consider this as a feature.

I've added this to CVS, with a couple of modifications. There's no faq rss field, so removed the alias setting for that. The faq_pathauto_bulkupdate() function was not provided in the patch, so removed that functionality too. Will be included in the next dev release, available later today. Also now available for 6.x too.
