only want the blog, can't use wordpress

First of all, I don't know Drupal, and I don't have a clue which version it is. I'm guessing the latest one, but I can't find anywhere on my site which version its running.

Basically, all I want is to have a blog on one section of my front page, that can load to archives etc. Wordpress sounded perfect, but apparently it is unlikely to run on my brother's server and he already had Drupal for his ugly template websites so he stuck it on mine.

I don't know what to do, because I don't understand Drupal and thus don't really want to attempt to make my own theme just to make Drupal's templates only touch one corner of my front page. I don't want Drupal to do essentially anything on any other part of my site. I don't want a forum, or any way for people to put anything on my site, even on blog comments.

Is there any way to do this without spending large amounts of time simply learning Drupal? Or, is there any other program you know of to do this? I wouldn't use anything at all, but I want a fully functioning blog on one section, and I certainly don't know how to code that myself. And I hate templates.

First of all, to check your drupal version go to admin>logs>status report. Secondly, what kinda server is your brother running that can't support Wordpress?

And if you just want a blog with drupal is quite easy. Go download a theme and enable blog in your admin>modules and post something. Now you have a blog. If you dont understand
what I'm telling you here. Go read the basics of drupal. It's actually quite simple.

thanks for the quick

thanks for the quick reply!

its 5.7
I have no idea about the server, he told me what the problem was but it was a while back since I had to get over the emotional trauma seeing a template on my website caused me the last time I saw it. And I don't really know anything about servers.

About the theme, I don't think you understand my problem. I get the basics: Drupal is, at its most basic, a template website where you take someone else's theme and put your words on top of their constraining design. The whole point is that I don't want to use someone else's template theme. And I don't just want a blog either.

I just only want drupal to be one portion of my website, so that I can design the rest how I please with my limitied skills.

I don't even know why I asked, from what I gather I basically have to design my own theme (likely from scratch) and attempt to make it not visible that its a drupal website, or take drupal off altogether and find something else to make the blog section.

No CMS wanted?

It sounds to me as if you really don't want a CMS or you don't want to really put any time into learning one. Personally, I don't think Drupal is right for you and it would take a lot of energy for those that appreciate Drupal to convince you otherwise. If I was in your shoes I would give a blogging service such as Blogger or Wordpress.com. Services such as Blogger will even allow you to FTP the blog over to your brother's site.

"Drupal is a template website where you take someone else's theme and put your words on top of their design?" -I really don't think you know what Drupal is. LOL. Wouldn't wordpress, joomla and other cms fall under this category as well?

And you don't have to completely start a new theme from scratch. Just edit the theme's CSS and it could be a completely different site and wont be visible as a drupal site.

Drupal and WordPress have essentially the exact same requirements.
