I need this module, but I'm using Drupal 6.2, and it's incompatible.

Even if the maintainers don't want to do this right now, could you give any hints as to what needs to be done, and I can try to look into it myself?

Why, have you not seen http://drupal.org/node/221424 ? I'm using the ported module there on my site which runs 6.2, works just fine!
