Allow users to upload images

Hi,

I have just sumbled across drupal and it looks great!! can anybody suggest the best way to allow users of the site to upload an image (preferably batch images) and have their entry added to the content of the site for the general public to see? I would ideally like to modify the way the images are shown probably having the image along the top of the page with some text (again entered by the user) below.

What modules / techniques would you suggest and also will this be quick to do???
