link to alternative-language version of page disappears after enabling synonym_collapsing

I noticed that the link to a different-language version of my homepage (Drupal 6.2) had disappeared, and tracked it down to this module. If it is disabled, the link is there, enabling it makes the link disappear, regardless of which, or how many, other modules are enabled.

To reproduce, create a translated version of a page, set language configuration at /admin/settings/language/configure to "Path prefix with language fallback.". For me, the link showed up when browsing to the page (as long as synonym_collapsing was disabled), however if it does not, it may be necessary to set a different language preference for the browser or/and the user account.
