we have been having problems with these contributed themes and modules
we download and unzip them properly and place them in the proper folder of sites/all/themes
but the auto detecting mechanism of drupal does not detect them and we don't get them in the list of available themes and modules which can be chosen and enabled.pl help..

Check if they are for Dtrupal 6.x. Do they contain a module-name.info file?
