2. Unfortunately, when I click on the linked map, I get a white page.

How can I display the map content there? Could this be a jquery issue with my theme?

Change to a core theme like Galrand and see for yourself if it's an issue with your theme.

I notice you do not include a link to gmaplocation.js in header of HTML page.

Do you have 

<?php print $scripts ?>

in page.tpl.php of your theme?

Please reopen if this does not solve your issue.
