Are there any alternatives to TinyMCE.

That thing is so buggy it just cannot be used. It messed up my text every time, especially when I go between rich and non-rich text.

There has to be some module that works just like Wordpress or Blogger's input fields? Or even phpBB or vBuelliton input fields.

Just tried out fckeditor and though experiences are not extensive yet, we are very pleased with it so far.

I find FCKEditor messy and complex to make it actually work.
I always need to edit the source code to get what I want.

Any alternative that just does proper rich text editing? Why a so huge module for just that?

Lots... http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/63 I've tried most of them, and atm i prefer fckeditor also.

Because it's a large, complex, and difficult task. It's difficult enough for a regular word processor-- now add the complications of valid xhtml and css interactions.
