Unfortunately, themes are not like modules, and when customized, cannot be easily upgraded. Recent updates have been quite expansive, making it not practical to just patch certain parts of older versions. You would have to compare your customized files with the updated files, and move changes from one to the other. However, If you've built a highly customized theme from Framework, chances are most of the default settings have been overridden anyway.
