User Registration

We've had to turn off the ability for new user registrations as it overwrites existing member data.

After installation and configuration we imported our existing user-base into our DB. After a throrough search of drupal.org we're unable to find any similar situations in which a fix would work.

We urgently need a fix for this as it is a commercial site.
