Heya guys! I just learned that themes are not like modules, can be easily upgraded without losing current settings.
Is it really alright to never upgrade a theme? Because of all the customization I've done with the theme I downloaded I don't think I can go over each changes I made and incorporate it with the newer version.
The only reason I think that would resort me to upgrading is when there is a security issue. I haven't heard of any security issues concerning themes. In your long experience in here have you ever encounter or heard of security issues involving theme? Or is it even possible that they may have a security hole in the future with themes that can put my sites jeopardy?
Feedback much appreciated.

It's possible that a theme could have a security issue, but it's unlikely. I don't remember seeing any security issues related to themes. It's a good idea to subscribe to the security mailing list or RSS feed regardless.
Chances are that there aren't huge changes between releases of a theme. You don't mention which theme you started with, but the changes made to the original are probably minor enough that you can easily incorporate the updates manually, if needed. Try clicking on the "View CVS messages link" on the theme's project page here on drupal.org. There you'll be able to see what changes were made between different versions. And you should be able to get an idea of whether or not the changes are needed on your site. You can get even more details by visiting the theme's page on cvs.drupal.org.

hmmm...
I'm sure that if they find a security issue related to themes they'll report it in the security newlsetter.
So make sure you're subscribed to that (you account/edit/newlsetters.)
