I am thinking about using drupal for a community I run but I was wondering if there was a module where I could (as an admin) promote a forum post to a blog on the homepage. As a way to bring interesting stuff inside the community to the main area of the site. Does this make sense?

If you want to display it on the main page, this may well possible but not sure: It is called promoting to the front page and I thought it was possible for all nodes. forum posts might be an exception – check by editing a post and see if it has promote to the front page.

If not, it might be possible to use a view (view module) to achieve this.

If you want to change the type to a blog, there is a module that will convert nodes for you, though i don’t think this is necessary.

You can promote forum posts.

when you go to edit the forum node, down in "publishing options" (or whatever it's called) there's a checkbox for "promote to front page."

Of course, it you want to say why you think it’s interesting, you could always write a blog and include an internal link to the forum post.
