As the subject reads. I have a primary link labeled "Web Design" and a forum named "Web Design". The primary link links to the forum. When I click on a thread that is in that forum, the primary link, "Web Design" no longer has the .active class. Anyone resolve this?

implies that something is wrong.
This is how the active class feature works – and how visitors expect it to work.

So is it possible to get the parent item in the navigation to stay active when you are surfing one of it's threads? This might make for better user experience since deactivating the parent item in the navigation may cause some conflict for users trying to establish where they are on the site.
If it aint broke...

This is how the active class feature works – and how visitors expect it to work. Don’t surprise them!
If they are surfing one of its ‘threads’ then ‘it’ is not active – the ‘thread’ is.
There is no conflict, except for the one you are trying to create.
If a user wants to establish where they are on the site, they only have to look at the breadcrumb trail.
The ancestors of the active menu item are already distinguished from most others by being expanded.

Anyways, thanks for your
Anyways, thanks for your opinion on usability. I must say, after surfing your portfolio site for a few seconds, I've come to think you are probably the last person to speak on usability. Anybody else with some input on this?
Opinion
That site is an experiment to use only .css and no JavaScript, yet still be dynamic, so is not intended to be an epitome of anything – least of all usability.
The flexibility of Drupal is such that you are free to implement your ideas, if you are able, but don’t imply that Drupal needs fixing.
My comments are just my opinion, and you are free to ignore if you wish: But considering that the .active feature of Drupal was deliberately designed this way, and is based on the deliberately designed :active feature of html and css, maybe you should spend a little more time forming your own opinion before redesigning several important programs.
Forming your own opinion is not a quest to find someone who agrees with you™.
