The module looks great! Do you have a time frame for inclusion of the auto-registration for users?
I am also curious about Drupal being able to store the referenced materials. For instance, Apture uses examples of journalists embedding links to source material. Those links are inline but are not captured separately within Drupal, I imagine. Therefore, that content is not searchable within Drupal as it would be if a picture were uploaded or a media file were embedded.
An example Apture uses is a music blogger writing about Gnarls Barley. The blogger links to music and videos, which appear as popups in an Apture popup. But those media items are not directly connected to the document as additional nodes connected to the document nodes.

Many of the features you mention depend on support on the Apture side. We are actively working with their team and the features will appear in the Drupal module as soon as they are available on the service side. I will let them know about your suggestions.
