After enabling this module in the admin area the whole site refuses to show anymore. All I get is a white screen with no error message. No pages work anymore.

I really need help recovering the site. If you require anymore info then please ask.

Managed to fix it by deleting the entries for file field (including meta) and mimefield from the database.

how about check your error log, and up your php_memory_limit... that is normally the WSOD fix. reopen if upping the memory limit doesn't help.
