I think it would be more useful to show the view names rather than the view descriptions in the drop down list when adding a VFB, as they tend to be sorted in a more familiar way.

I agree. View descriptions may not be unique, but view names are unequivocal.

+1 to this.
In some cases you can end up with lots of views simply labeled "Search".
In those you use a prefix on view names to recognize related views and the php calls.

This version of Views Filter Block is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
