After looking at the Volunteer module it looks like it has the functionallity I have been looking to use for a current project I am working on. The problem is that it relies on a Contact Manager module which the isn't downloadable. From the link to the contact_manager.module in this project's description I get a page not found.
I was conserned when first looking into this module that it require another module which ins't part of the Drupal core nor one of Drupal's contributed modules. I feel that the contact_manager.module should be submitted as a contributor module. If it is downloading it won't be a problem in the future and won't rely on a 3rd-party website to distribute it.
I was also wondering why this moudule doesn't use the RSVP module, which is a contributed module, instead of the contact_manager 3rd-party module?

jsaints commentedThe contact manger module is still not available on the URL http://drumm.drupaldevs.org/contact_manager.tgz
Is there a mirror? With out it, the volunteer module cannot be used.

eferraiuolo commentedI figured out you can download the CivicSpace version of Drupal, and it comes with the volunteer and contact manager mdoules.

Coyote commentedUmmm... what if you are not using the CivicSpace version of Drupal, have an existing site, and can't or don't want to run the CivicSpace version?
I dug around trying to find Contact Manager on CivicSpace, and apparently it has been replaced with something different. Moreover, the "something different" appears to be part of the general install, so I don't see any instructions for installing it one's self, on its own.
Is it possible to use this module properly if you are not using CivicSpace? If so, what does one do about the Contact Manager thing?

killes@www.drop.org commentedYou can just take the module and the table definitions out of their tarball.
Amazon commentedPlease use CiviCRM.

Thanks,

Coyote commentedKilles: Perhaps it's in the older versions. The new tarball has only CiviCRM, which I can't run, because it apparently requires MySQL 4.x
Kieran: Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, I'm unable to use it, because it requires MySQL 4.x, and I don't know if I can get the server upgraded. I'm guessing that if someone's stuck using MySQL 3.x they're just SOL for Volunteer, etc. : (
I might try digging out the older version of Contact Manager from one of the archived versions of CivicSpace, just to get something up and running, but that seems like an enterprise doomed to eventual tears, as it's not supported. ; )

Steve Dondley commentedI'm in the same boat. Running old version of Apache. Please post here if you figure something out.

Amazon commentedYou need to talk to your hosts so that you can move to CiviCRM.
MySQL 3.23 was released almost 3 years ago. Since then there has been 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, and now we are almost at 5.1.
MySQL 4.0. is widely regarded as stable.
If you need help talking to your host please contact me.

PeterLucas commentedWhy isnt CiviCRM in the regular module download list? Where's a direct link to download this thing?
I'm starting to get really frustrated with all this vague insider crap...

Amazon commentedGoogle is really good for finding stuff.

PeterLucas commentedYes, I have found it eventually using Google. Don't patronize me. It's just such a huge waste of time that I have to scour for clues for every little step in building my website with Drupal. I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it.
Now I have the file, there's no explanation whatsoever which files I should upload to the Drupal module folder to get this to work. And yes, I'm using Google and Yahoo to find an answer somewhere in a dark corner of the www

Amazon commentedHere is the install instructions.
http://objectledge.org/confluence/display/CRM/Installation+Guide+for+Dev...
I am sorry you are having a hard time. I posted your comments to the development mailing list and we will work to get CiviCRM as a listed project on Drupal.org. CiviCRM is currently licensed under an AGPL and therefore isn't checked into Drupal.
If you want a higher level of support I suggest you join the CiviCRM developer mailing list.
If you want an automated installer you can try http://civicspacelabs.org/home for the latest release candidate of CiviCRM integrated with Drupal.
We are currently working to improve the documentation.
Cheers,
Kieran

bslade commentedNote, according to old (Jun 23, 2005) cached content from google, here's what was on http://drumm.drupaldevs.org:
So it sounds like contact_manager has been deprecated and therefore the volunteer and mass mailer modules should be deprecated too.
I think I have an old copy of this contact_manager module, although the module directory name was "contact". I've posted a copy of this module at http://www.benslade.com/misc/drupal/contact/ but I don't have all the SQL for the needed tables. I've included a file there called contact.mysql for several other tables for which seem to come from CivicSpace (contact, contact_search, contact_sources, contact_data). But there's also the contact_manager_sources table which I don't have the source for. If anybody has this, please email it to me (publicmailbox at benslade dot com)
Note, Neil's email is listed as ndrumm@uiuc.edu in registration info for delocalizedham.com

killes@www.drop.org commentedvolunteer and massmailer have been updated to use CiviCRM. Use the CVS version for this, it is compatible with Drupal 4.6.
